As we age or face health challenges, everyday activities such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, medication reminders, housekeeping, and transportation can become difficult to manage alone. For many families, the desire is to keep their loved ones safe, comfortable, and independent at home for as long as possible. However, the cost of care can be overwhelming.
The Arizona Long-Term Care System (ALTCS pronounced All-Tex) was created to help eligible seniors and individuals receive the care they need without the financial burden of paying out of pocket. ALTCS is a Medicaid program that provides access to a variety of in-home care services that can help individuals remain in their homes and avoid unnecessary placement in a nursing facility. There is no waitlist. If you qualify, you're in.
At My House In-Home Care, we specialize in helping individuals and families understand, and access ALTCS benefits. Our experienced team will discuss your loved ones’ care needs, review ALTCS eligibility requirements, and provide a checklist and support to help you prepare.
My House In-Home Care manages all these situations with Medicaid paying up to 100%. Families choose the family member or friend who will provide care. We hire them, train them, pay for their certifications, and start paying for the caregiving work they do as a W2 employee.
My House is contracted with AHCCCS to work with all three health plans Mercy Care, Banner-University Family Care, and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan in Arizona. This is a Medicaid program that provides free in-home care for those who need nursing level care but want to stay at home.
In Home care is covered by the insurance company if you have bought Long-term care insurance in the past. They cover some or all of the cost of home care based on your needs and the terms of the LTCI policy.
This is where you cover the entire amount of the cost of home care personally. If you do not qualify for ALTCS or have LTCI then home care becomes an out-of-pocket cost. There are other options where some care is provided by agencies like the Area Agency on aging.
Compassionate care everyday:
People who receive care through the ALTCS program need to be qualified Arizona Medicaid beneficiaries. If you think you may qualify but aren't sure how to check, contact My House. We will happily provide guidance. Keep in mind that the income requirements apply to the care recipient, not the caregivers or the family. A senior may qualify for Medicaid and ALTCS, even while the family providing care does not have Medicaid.
My House will assist in reviewing the ALTCS requirements, answering questions, and taking care of training and payroll for your family members or friend caregiver. Most families we work with had no idea this benefit existed before they called us.
Call us to find out if your family qualifies. It's free.
Tax-Free Income for Live-in Caregivers: Under IRS Notice 2014-7, caregivers who live in the same home as the person they are caring for may not have to pay federal income tax on the wages they receive through My House In-Home Care. This "Difficulty of Care" exclusion helps families keep more of their compensation to support their household. The exemption applies regardless of the relationship: caregiver, friend, spouse, child, sibling, grandchild, etc. Consult with a tax professional to see how this applies to your specific situation.
